About the database
WHAT IS "WHO IS WHO IN CZECH SLAVONIC STUDIES"

"Who is who in Czech Slavonic Studies" is an electronic biographical database of Czech specialists who are dealing in the widest sense with the fields of culture, language, literature, art, history and society of Slavonic nations and states.

Part of the database is also a list of workplaces where Slavonic studies are undertaken in the Czech Republic and of those located abroad, where people listed in the database work (see workplaces list).

The manager and administrator of this database is the Slavonic Library (Czech version) - part of the National Library of the Czech Republic (Czech version).

DATABASE AIMS

The aim of the database is:

to provide simpler communication between specialists within the Czech Republic. This is served by the outline of the biographies, specializations and contact details of these specialists.

to introduce the community of the Czech Slavonic studies specialists to the spectrum of the wider world.

to introduce the printed production to the Czech professional community. Along with citations, the database allows placing references to particular works published electronically. It is also possible to publish electronically those works, which were previously only in print.

to simplify the presentation of those workplaces who deal with this field of interest.

The database offers a large amount of data and information, particularly contacts, which enables easier orientation within the field and simplifies searches for possible partners in various professional events, etc.

One of the important tasks is to keep the information presented in the database up to date. That is why all registered users are able to update their personal details.
WHO CAN BE REGISTERED IN THE DATABASE

The database is open and designed for anyone who is in any way (either professionally or by interest) producing specialized activity in the fields this database is dealing with.

Any citizen of the Czech Republic can register in the database as well as people living in the Czech Republic for an extended period of time and actively influencing the development of any of the Slavonic studies field and Czechs working abroad.

The main categories of people whose presence in the database is apparent are:
university students and graduates of Slavonic studies, Czech studies, historical studies or humanities related somehow with the Slavonic region
university and high school teachers
academic researchers
other specialists working independently or within their position
specialists undertaking a professional activity during retirement

The registration in the database depends on private initiative. Employees of Slavonic Library will be adding data from public sources and they will be doing so initiatively but only based on their own experiences and contacts.
